Michelle and Austin's Backyard Summer Wedding

Michelle and Austin

Michelle and Austin were such an amazing example of what it looks like to genuinely enjoy a wedding day. I hear all of the time from people planning weddings that they want their day to be “low maitinence and fun”; and while this is the most common desire of the couples that I shoot, far too often the day can be taken over by the stresses and anxieties that come with orchestrating a wedding. It takes quite an effort to put on a wedding, and with that there are so many elements that are exceedingly important, but that can very easily distract a couple from the most important part of this very special day: the bride and groom.

These two never once let this slip away from them on their wedding day. They breezed through the day with nothing short of smiles and laughter, like any bride and groom would dream of doing. They approached the day with a fun-filled, jubilant attitude that made their wedding feel like a big party. This mentality was contagious to every person that attended their wedding; you could feel the positive energy that they brought with them radiate through every single guest, family member, bridesmaid and groomsman. They embraced the party so much so that the theme of their (completely DIY day, if I might add) was “fiesta”, accompanied with vibrant colors that mimicked the liveliness and energy of their day so perfectly. It was absolutely incredible! From start to finish, Michelle and Austin’s wedding day was beautiful inside and out, just like the two of them.

The Ceremony

I have a running list of moments that have moved me so much that it makes it hard for me to perform my job of taking pictures. Michelle’s dad walking her down the aisle makes it in the top five. I believe this picture speaks for itself, so all I will say is that I don’t think I’ve ever pressed my eye into a camera eye hold to hide my tears as much as I have on their wedding day.

I always love people that challenge a wedding tradition or bring something new to a wedding day, and I have to say that I love the idea of a piñata in place of a garter toss. This is the first time I’ve ever seen this, and it made for such a fun touch on their day!
